The Best Lunch Boxes and Accessories for Kids

Another day, another lunch to pack. Groan. Is anyone else not enthusiastic about this? But first, let’s talk lunch boxes and accessories!

I think we’ve tried every container and system, so I’ll give you a sampling of what we like and why.

The Outside: Lunch Boxes

We like these three lunch boxes because they’re cleanable (wipe down easily) and insulated (keep food cool.)

The Inside: Lunchbox Containers

Easy Lunch Boxes
These are our go-to containers. We like these lunch box plastic containers because they’re stackable and have divided compartments.

TIP: Consider your child’s age and appetite. We’ve had to dump many lunch boxes and containers because as my kids grew, they needed more room for the amount of food.

Bento Style Lunchbox
I spent a LOT of money on this (gulp) because my daughter really, really wanted it. Several of her friends had one. The only problem is that she eats more than she can fit into this container. I recommend it for younger kids with smaller portions.

TIP: Make sure you buy plastic that is safe for food.

Stainless Steel Food Containers
We like the rubber lids. They’re easy to get on and off and don’t leak. These are great for dry food!

I also recommended:

Bentego Lunchboxes These work well for young children but are too small for my hearty eaters.

LunchBots These are only good for dry foods — and if you’re like me and leave them in the sink too long, watch out for rust. Not our favorite.

Klean Kanteen Stainless Steel Bottle 
Klean Kanteen water bottles are great except in hot weather — they do get hot!

Camelbak Water Bottle *Favorite
I think Camelbak’s last forever and don’t leak — until the valve needs replacing, which you can order. (Or your kid loses their water bottle!)

Lunchbox Accessories

Food Picks *Favorite
My kids loved when I stuck food picks into their food. These come in lots of cute Kawaii styles.

Cookie Cutters *Favorite
I prefer these sturdy cookie cutters in contrast to sandwich cutters because they don’t rust and will easily cut through a sandwich.

Egg Mold cups *Favorite 
My kids love to make their hard-boiled eggs fancy — these fun designs are a big hit.

Silicone muffin cups *Favorite
These are perfect for small pieces of cut-up veggies, fruit, or crackers. My kids use these all year long — not just in their lunch boxese.
