What is Ovulation?

Ovulation is the release of an egg from one of your ovaries. The ovary releases an egg into your fallopian tube, where it can be fertilized by sperm if they are present. If fertilization does not occur in 24 hours or less, the egg dies off and is absorbed by or exits your body.¹

Digital tests are easier to read, provide more comprehensive insight into your cycle, and are slightly more sensitive, but they are also more expensive than generic ovulation tests.⁵

Temperature

A woman’s body temperature rises after ovulation for the second part of her cycle from ovulation until the start of her next period. This happens in response to the hormone progesterone. If you do not want to test your urine or blood directly for progesterone, you can take your basal body temperature daily first thing in the morning before getting out of bed.
