One big milestone in parenting is potty training. It can be liberating for some parents to be rid of diapers, but it can also be frustrating, depending on how your child takes to it. There are several ways to potty train your child and several key potty training products you’ll want to have on hand, such as a potty seat at home, training pants and a travel potty.
Here’s why you should consider getting one for your toddler.
Potty training means committing to your child going to the bathroom whenever and wherever they need to, and a travel potty for toddlers helps make awkward spots like parks, pools, stores, parking lots and road trips less stressful. A portable potty for toddlers is a child-size potty that a toddler can sit on to go to the restroom independently.
Take it on the go just about everywhere—it’s just as portable and easy to carry as the name suggests.
Why is a travel potty for toddlers so useful?
When potty training, consistency is key. It’s hard for toddlers to understand to hold their pee. There will be situations where having a potty to whip out on the spot will be key, such as outside, on road trips or in places with long lines.
It’s also useful for children who are scared of public restrooms or just take their time sitting on the potty. Pooping is a process, ya know?
A travel potty gives a child independence and keeps the training consistent. These nifty solutions come in several styles, such as a collapsible potty, a portable potty seat-only style to use on a public restroom toilet seat as well as contained, sealed travel toilet styles like the one shown.
You only need to be caught out without a potty once to decide that it’s definitely a worthy item to own (For me, it was at a park, and I remember it vividly). I wanted one that I could keep in the back of my car, wouldn’t leak and could easily clean.
My Carry travel potty in the ladybug style fits the bill and then some, and now we never have to stop at a stinky porta potty again.
It’s adorable, and encourages my daughter to go to the bathroom in high-stress situations, such as outside or on a road trip. I love that it’s also light enough (just under two pounds) that my daughter carries it herself when she chooses to. And, it fits nicely in our trunk.
Frankly, it’s one of the few ways to ensure potty training successes continue when you’re on the road. Whether traveling to Grandma’s house or heading off to one of the best all-inclusive family resorts, it’s just so lightweight and easy to carry that I can’t imagine leaving home without it at this point.
Important to me features include having non-slip feet to keep the potty in place, an extra-tall splashguard to keep fluids in the potty and a leak-proof seal so that, just in case I don’t get all the pee out in one go, I don’t have to worry about it leaking out on me. It’s super easy to clean with disinfectant, too.
Where to buy the character travel potty seat
You can grab your My Carry travel potty for toddlers on Amazon for about $35. It comes in a variety of characters, such as a ladybug, pig and fish, and makes an excellent addition to any potty training kit. We love how neatly it contains icky pee and poop, but mostly—toddlers just can’t wait to use it.
