Some mothers do certainly have concerns when their babies are straining and crying to pass out poo. This situation happened to me with my second baby. He was always finding it difficult to poop and was so fussy.
ACCESSING THE SITUATION
1. Please my baby finds it very hard to poop. He struggles and pushes while trying to poop and it’s not like it’s a hard stool. He’s just 8weeks. Please is it normal?
Answer: Yes, this is normal. Babies at this age are still learning how to get their body to pass poop. Their digestive system is learning to work properly as such they often strain to poo.
2. My baby struggles and cries in pain, and still doesn’t poop or passes a little or really hard stool. What should I do?
Answer: This can be a sign of constipation. Kindly check with you health care provider to access the situation better.
STEPS TO TAKE TO HELP YOUR BABY POO.
When the situation has been detected either constipation, or just a baby having trouble passing out poop, then these steps can be taken.
1. Eat Veggies and Fruits.
This cannot be over emphasized, the food high in fiber that you eat can greatly aid a constipated child. This would also help you to poop better especially after a vaginal birth, or Cesarean birth when you are still healing up.
2. Warm Bath.
Giving your baby a warm bath can also set his body to be more relaxed. This way he would pass out the stool with ease.
3. Tummy Massages.
Massaging your baby’s tummy can help your little one get it going in her bowels. This greatly aids bowel movement.
Easy massage exercises you can do to help your baby are;
a. Take two fingers; your index and your middle finger and make a clockwise movement around his tummy for 5 to 6 times to help him have a bowel movement.
b. Take your index and middle finger and gently stroke his middle from in between his ribs all the way down to his waist. Please do not add pressure.
4. Stimulation of the Anus
This is done by taking a clean cotton bud, and Methylatum.
Gently insert the cotton bud into the butthole of your baby. Then you twirl it around and voila the poop will start coming out.
After trying all these or some of it. The baby poops but in case you are scared to try these just call your healthcare professional or provider or go in for immediate help.
If after trying all these your baby doesn’t poop. Kindly also go in for immediate help in case it is causes by an underlying illness.
