12 Reasons Pink is a True Rockstar Mom

12 Reasons Pink is a True Rockstar Mom

Pink squatting down with her kids smiling at the camera

There are many famous musician moms and Hollywood moms who we regular people living in the rest of America, on cul-de-sacs, driving mini-vans, and grocery shopping on a budget can emulate. But Pink is one rock-and-roll mom in a category all her own. She exploded on the scene as a young pop star when we were teens and tweens, so we all grew up together and figured out the world at the same time. And now she’s a mom of two kids — Willow and Jameson — and like her musical career, she’s killing it at motherhood.

Pink embodies all the magic of motherhood between taking her kids on tour and working out with them on her back while also finding time to visit Disney, bake cookies, and fall into fits of giggles. She humbly admits she doesn’t know what she’s doing any more than anyone else, but she’s giving it her all, and that’s the best she can do.

But most of all, Pink appreciates that even though it’s the hardest job on earth, motherhood is a gift and the greatest thing she’ll ever do. She honors this role by prioritizing her kids’ needs and letting them see her succeed as a working mom who has earned her success and provides them with a stable and adventurous life. Pink is a true rockstar mom, and we love her for it.

12 Reasons Pink is a True Rockstar Mom

Here are 12 reasons we think Pink is a true rockstar mom to emulate.

1. She Teaches Her Daughter to Love Herself

Pink’s acceptance speech for the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2017 VMAs was a masterclass in accepting and loving herself and instilling that self-love in her daughter. She tells a story of Willow saying, “Mama, I’m the ugliest girl I know,” and then adding, “I look like a boy with long hair.” Pink, herself, has lived a lifetime of seeing and hearing criticisms of her look, her body, how she’s too “strong,” too “masculine,” and “looks like a boy.” So, she did what any fired-up mom would do in this situation and went home and made a PowerPoint presentation!

It included images and stories of famous artists and musicians who inspired the world and brought joy to every corner of our planet. And they all heard the same message throughout their lives — that they were different, too “this” or too “that.” Artists like Prince, Annie Lennox, Elton John, and David Bowie. And she encouraged Willow to continue, like her mom always has, to “live her truth” because that’s the beauty the world needs to see.

2. She Parents How She Sees Fit and Doesn’t Care What Others Think

When Jessica Simpson was criticized for letting her daughter dye her hair, Pink jumped to Jessica’s defense. Being no stranger to letting her kids dye, cut, or shave their hair off, our favorite rockstar mom shared this IG post with the caption, “I heard people were bummed on Jessica Simpson for letting her seven year old get her hair colored. So we thought we’d share what we did yesterday. #bluehairdontcare #getyourownkids #parentpoliceareactuallyjustlonelysadpeople #illdyeyourhairtoolosers #ohlookmanocomments”

Because Pink knows hair is just hair. Also, letting kids express themselves and have fun with something as innocent as hair dye is good parenting. We love her for taking a stand against the mom-shamers in this post.

3. She Prioritizes Her Marriage

Pink has been open in interviews about how she and her husband, Carey Hart, briefly separated years ago but have worked through their difficulties (and continue to do so) with therapy. “When you first get together, you look at that person as your entire world. One person can’t be your entire world. You have to have your own passions, your own friends, your own time to yourself. I used to be super needy,” she told People in a 2021 interview. “Now we expect less of each other, and that allows us to give each other more somehow.”

She also adds that part of what makes her marriage work is that she and Carey support one another. “He’s just the most sensitive, supportive guy in the world. He never says no. Any dream I’ve ever had, ‘Yes, I’m with you. Whatever you want to do,’” Pink told People. “It takes swallowing egos sometimes. It’s beautiful because it allows us to have this crazy, magical adventure and the kids.”

4. She Shows Her Children Respect and Encourages Them to Be Their Authentic Selves

In an appearance on the Drew Barrymore Show, the proud mom started talking about her daughter Willow, who was in the audience, but stopped and asked, “Is it okay if I talk about you?”

And, in an interview with People Magazine, she’s quoted as saying, “I’m not raising punks. They will have manners; they will be purpose-driven and good humans,” Pink said. “But the whole conform thing? That’s not our family, so please respect that. If my boy wants to wear pink and carry a purse or a rad fanny pack, go for it. If my daughter wants to get every pattern that she has in her closet, and in her head, she thinks it looks great together, I don’t question that.”

5. She Multitasks Like a Boss

Pink’s IG feed is full of inspiring snaps showing her working out (hashtag “tourprep”) with kids on her back and cooking with a baby strapped to her chest. Like the rest of us, she’s a busy mom balancing motherhood with a successful career that she 100% deserves and has worked hard for.

But as we all know, it only works if we do a million things simultaneously. She takes her kids to work with her so she can still put on a sold-out show at night but be with them when they eat pancakes in the morning. And that means taking them to rehearsals, taking them with her on the red carpet, and letting them help with her hair and makeup too!

6. She Makes Sure Her Kids Always Know Where They Stand

Before singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl in 2018, Pink came down with the flu, thanks to her kids. But no matter what, even if they “cough into her mouth,” they are always No. 1.

“I have two small Petri dish kids who literally cough INTO MY MOUTH and rub their snot on my cheek,” her IG post read. “You can’t write this stuff I swear! And here we are. I’ve arrived at another one of my dreams which is slowly becoming a sort of nightmare. I will tell you, this is one of the biggest honors of my life, singing this song in front of my family, my military family, my dad and brother and step mama and family and the world. And the EAGLES!?!?! I promise I will do my best, as I always do. As far as the gremlins that got me into this mess, you can cough at me for the rest of your lives. If it’s a contest, babies, you win.”

7. She Sends Out Messages of Body Acceptance, Body Positivity, and Self-Love

Pink attended a benefit to raise money for cancer research in 2015. She got dressed up, felt beautiful, and had a wonderful night. But unfortunately, she was met with some obnoxious Twitter comments the following day who criticized her weight. But being Pink, she handled those trolls like the rockstar she is.

“I can see that some of you are concerned about me from your comments about my weight,” she responded in her Twitter post. She then goes on to rave about her amazing friend, Dr. Maggie DiNome, who “was given the Duke Award for her tireless efforts and stellar contributions to the eradication of cancer. But unfortunately, my weight seems much more important to some of you.”

Pink continues, saying she “felt pretty. In fact, I felt beautiful” and adding, “Please don’t worry about me. I’m not worried about me. And I’m not worried about you either. I am perfectly fine, perfectly happy, and my healthy, voluptuous and crazy strong body is having some much deserved time off. Thanks for your concern. Love, cheesecake.”

And, in her appearance on the Drew Barrymore Show, when asked if she was proud of who she is now, she responded, “Yes. Very. I like me.”

Boom. And that’s how it’s done.

8. She Keeps It Real. Even the Less Glamorous Parts

In a post on IG a few years ago, while all dolled up in fresh makeup and a gorgeous updo, Pink had to pump before going on stage and shared a super relatable selfie on IG with the caption, “And now this #pumpupthejams #mombreak.”

Or, you might find pics of the gorgeous singer doing a little skincare routine while traveling (got to keep the skin looking fresh!) or the time Pink was just a regular, worried mom at the ER with her kid who fell off the monkey bars.

But perhaps the best pic of all of Pink’s IG feed is this gem, which encapsulates motherhood better than anything we’ve ever seen.

We hear you, Mama. We hear you.

9. She Celebrates the Small Yet Magical Moments of Motherhood

Now that she’s over a decade into this motherhood gig, Pink knows something we all learn over time — it’s not the flashy vacations and expensive toys that make up the real stuff of motherhood. It’s those small, often unexpected moments. Baking cookies, having dual thumb wars, building a blanket fort. And while Pink is a tried-and-true rockstar, she’s also a mom like everyone else who enjoys snuggling up for a movie or going on a walk and looking at the sky — just because.

She might share a pic of her kids rocking out at her sold-out concert. Still, the next week, she’ll also share a hilarious shot of her son at the dentist, riding in the car in a Spider-man costume, or breaking into uncontrollable giggles in the bathtub that we can all relate to. Because those times your hilarious kids stop you in your tracks and make you marvel at their wonder — that’s the stuff right there, and Pink knows it.

10. She Admits She Doesn’t Know What She’s Doing, But She’s Doing Her Best

In her interview with Drew Barrymore, Pink admitted what we all feel — she’s flying blind. There is no parenting book, not even for famous, rich rockstar moms. None of us knows what we are doing, but we are all doing our best.

“I have a tote bag that says, ‘I literally have no idea what I’m doing,’ and I wear it to preschool dropoff,” Pink says. “The problem with us is that we want to get it right so bad because we know what it feels like to be the kid where it didn’t go right. And none of us know anything about what we’re doing. I don’t know if any of this is gonna work. I don’t know what’s gonna happen in 10 years.”

How refreshing is it to hear a mom who has a lot of money and can afford help like nannies, assistants, house cleaners, and tutors be like, “Yeah, I don’t know what the bleep I’m doing”?

None of us do. Not even Pink. But we’re doing it anyway.

11. She Talks to Her Daughter About Everything, and She is Honest With Her

Working mom life is no joke, no matter what your career is. And Pink knows that harsh reality as her tour schedule is starting to conflict with Willow’s activities now that her daughter is older. In a People Magazine interview, Pink says that she and Willow talked about how to manage her life as a touring musician and also a mom. “I told her, ‘It’s going to suck, and I won’t go longer than 10 days without you . . . or I’ll quit. I’ll walk away tomorrow. What do you want?’ And she was like, ‘Don’t quit, Mama. I will just miss you sometimes. And I love what you do.’ And I was like, ‘I love what I do too. I worked my ass off for it, and I’m not going to apologize for that. Also, it affords you a very nice life!’”

Telling our kids that we deserve the careers and success we’ve worked hard for is good because we want them to grow up doing something they are passionate about. Something they work hard for. We can still be good moms and have careers, and Pink’s willingness to talk that out with her child while prioritizing Willow’s needs is top-notch parenting.

12. She’s the Ultimate ‘Girl Mom’

If you scroll through Pink’s IG feed, she’s the first to brag about her amazing son Jameson and their precious bond. But her bond with Willow — that unique mother-daughter connection — is unlike anything else, and you can see it and feel it in how they look at each other.

When recording their reprise of “A Million Dreams,” there’s not a mother in the world who won’t fight back the tears when these two look at each other and sing.

And she knows firsthand what it’s like to grow up as a girl today, endlessly combating comments about our bodies, hearing the world telling us we can’t do one thing or be another, and trying to muddle our way through while feeling good about who we are. That’s why Pink works hard to constantly support Willow and make sure she knows that she can “write her own rules” and that, to her mom, she was “the love of my life.”

You don’t need to do things like Pink to be a good mom; she’d be the first person to tell you that because that’s one of the best — and hardest parts — of this whole thing. There are no rules. You can dye your hair bright pink and take your kids on stage or live a completely different life and raise kind children who make the world more beautiful.

As for Pink, her husband, Carey Hart, and their kids, Willow and Jameson, the brighter, the louder, and the more fun life is, the better. And most importantly, permission (encouragement even!) to be their authentic, unique, wonderful selves. If you can get that far, you’re killing it at motherhood too.
