Your unique chromosome makes you exactly who you are! The parts of a chromosome are the gene, centromere, and tightly coiled DNA. How much do you know about chromosomes? Let’s see the basics before we get started with the printables:
Our bodies are made up of countless human cells, invisible to the naked eye but can be seen under powerful compound microscopes. Within these cells, we can find chromosomes which are thread-like structures carrying hundreds of genes. The genetic content in the nucleus of each cell is what dictates many physical features in your body, and different chromosomes carry different information, so one chromosome may contain information about eye color and another one may determine blood type.
Usually, every person inherits 23 pairs of chromosomes: half come from their mother and the other half from their father. These chromosomes guide your body and growth even after birth, although they can only be seen during cell division.

More cool facts about chromosomes:
Chromosomes look like long, intricate chains made up of a substance called DNA. DNA takes the shape of a double helix. To keep things organized, our cell’s nucleus, where DNA is located, wraps it up in a small “package”. This packaging is called chromatin, and it helps keep our DNA organized.
When a cell prepares to divide, chromosomes go through a careful process. They duplicate, creating two identical sister chromatids connected at a point called the centromere. When it’s time for cell division, they separate and head to their respective cells. Here’s a cool fact: gender is determined by the Y chromosome. An XY combination makes males, while XX designates females.
