Why Do Kids Confuse m and w?

There are a lot of skills for young writers to master when they first begin. Children might find different letters, like the lowercase letter m and letter w confusing. This common occurrence happens with other letter pairs too: b and d, p and q, n and u, due to the similarities in their shapes, though they are facing different directions. 

The best way to help kids distinguish similar letters is through worksheets, fun games, and multisensory activities. With some extra practice using these free worksheets, young students will be able to tackle visual orientation and proper letter formation.

Oh No! Does this mean my child is dyslexic?

Writing letters in reverse is a noticeable symptom of dyslexia but it is certainly not the only symptom. Reversed letters are also a super common occurrence in kids who are building early writing skills. You should always talk to your pediatrician if you have concerns. And the advantage of early intervention is 100% worth putting on your doctor’s radar, even if it turns out your kiddo is just going through the normal process of building writing skills.
