- The name Canada comes from the Huron-Iroquois (North American indigenous people) word “kanata”, which means “village” of “settlement.”
- With a total area of 3,855,100 square miles (9,984,670 square kilometers), Canada is the second largest country in the world.
- It would take four and a half years to walk the length of Canada’s coastline.
- The current population of Canada is 38,624,897, about 0.5% of the world’s total.
- The maple leaf is a national identity symbol, even in the Canadian flag.
- Quebec is the world leader in maple syrup production and is recognized around the world.
- Montreal and Quebec City have a significant French influence. Before 1763, most of the province was part of New France and had many French immigrants; as a result, the common language was French.
- Quebec’s old Town is the only walled city in North America whose walls still exist. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985.
