Learning new vocabulary in a foreign language may seem difficult, but it doesn’t have to be. There are a variety of ways for simple language development, like fun games and printable flashcards. A great way to start learning basic Spanish words is with a family flashcard set, as visual words are an easy way to learn new vocabulary words. They are a really powerful tool!
These Spanish vocabulary flashcards each come with a beautiful illustration and the English and Spanish terms for the extended and immediate family members. Once you’ve printed all eight pages, you can cut each card by the dotted line and fold it in the center.
Then, kids can color the cards and study the words.
1. Niño – Niña
The first printable page includes the words niño (boy) and niña (girl). Do you know any niño or niña in your familia?
2. Hombre – Mujer
Our second printable page includes the words hombre (man) and mujer (woman). How many hombres and how many mujeres are in your familia?
3. Papá – Mamá
Our third printable page includes the words papá (dad) and mamá (mom). Do you know what are the names of mamá and papá?
4. Hermano – Hermana
Our fourth printable page includes the words hermano (brother) and hermana (sister). Do you have any hermanos or hermanas?
5. Abuelo – Abuela
Our fifth printable page includes the words abuelo (grandpa) and abuela (grandma). Share a nice memory with your abuelo or abuela!
6. Tío – Tía
Our sixth printable page includes the words tío (uncle) and tía (aunt). How many tíos and tías do you have?
7. Primo – Prima
Our seventh printable page includes the female and male words for “cousin”. Primo is a male cousin and prima is a female cousin. Do you know how many primos and primas there are in your family?
8. ¿Quién es él/ella? – ¿Cómo se llama esta persona?
Our eighth and last printable page includes the questions ¿quién es él / ella? (who is he/her?) and ¿cómo se llama esta persona? (what is this person called?). You can glue a photo of a family member and have the kids answer the question.

How to use family Spanish flashcards
Here are some fun ways to use these printable Spanish flashcards:
- Print each set of flashcards twice and use them as game cards like Memory.
- Use flashcards to talk about their family members. Ask them questions like “What is your Abuelo’s name?”.
- Play Heads-Up – Draw a flashcard from a pile without looking at it and hold it to your forehead. Ask yes or no questions to the students to guess who it is.
