2. One of the seven natural wonders of the world, the canyon stretches an impressive 227 miles long and averages over ten miles wide.
3. The Grand Canyon formed because of water erosion from the Colorado River.
4. The Grand Canyon is made up of giant cliffs of a type of metamorphic rock that is 1.75 billion years old – nearly half the age of the Earth!

9. There is a small town, the Supai Village, located at the base of the Canyon within the Havasupai Indian Reservation, and it is the most remote community in the area and the only place where mail is still delivered by pack mule.
10. The Grand Canyon is considered a geological mystery called the Great Unconformity, 250 million-year-old rock lie back to back with 1.2 billion-year-old rocks, and we don’t know what happened during the hundreds of millions of years between.
