Red alert! Chrissy Teigen swapped her trademark, flowy brown hair for a spicy reddish hue thanks to her trusted stylist, Matt Rez. “Breaking news: woman gets new hair color,” she quipped. Apparently, a major hair shift was the biggest item on her newborn checklist after giving birth to Esti, who is now nearly two months old.
Ever-supportive husband, John Legend, chimed in by commenting, “Gorgeous.”
The mom of three shared a handful of shots and Instagram stories before heading out to celebrate the launch of Legend’s new skincare line, LOVEDº1. Chrissy showed off images of older children Luna, 6, and Miles, 4, making the most of a fun night out. Baby daughter Esti wasn’t pictured.
The hair color is being described by industry experts as an “Autumnal, spicy ginger hue that’s easy to achieve on dark hair.”
“If you’re working with medium to dark brown hair, you can get somewhat close to this spicy, pumpkin spiced hair look that Chrissy is rocking,” shares New York City-based hair colorist, Adam Mizrachi. “Try using a color-depositing shampoo or conditioner twice in one week, and then switching to every other shampoo to maintain the color.”
This Keracolor color-depositing conditioner is an Amazon bestseller and only about $20. It’s designed to achieve the coppery hues Teigen has on light, medium and chocolatey brown shades of hair.
“If you have black or extremely dark brown hair, you’ll need to see your professional colorist to lift some pigment before adding ginger or copper tones,” says Adam. “And reddish tones tend to fade faster than other colors, so you should add a color-depositing shampoo or conditioner to your routine either way. It will prolong the vibrance and freshness of the look, and keep it easy.”
The move is a big one for Teigen, who traditionally has avoided major changes to her appearance aside from a bout with bright pink hair in 2021. But hey, the pandemic made us do a lot of weird hair things, right?
Adam adds, “We’re all noticing the color right now because it’s so fun and new for her, but what’s really catching my eye is her shoulder-length cut with face-framing angles. That’s going to be the new go-to cut for stylish, trendy moms everywhere by the end of the year. Women will be stepping into far shorter haircuts than before and experimenting with red hair tones.”
