Halloween is only a couple weeks away, which means it’s time to start finalizing costumes (just realized you’re in a pinch? We’ve got you covered with easy, last-minute costume ideas!) and determining where you’re taking the kiddos to trick-or-treat near Houston, especially if you’re looking to branch out past your own neighborhood this year. Best Neighborhoods to Trick-or-Treat in Houston

The Heights

Residents of The Heights are known for being generous with their candy and festive with their Halloween decor, making this neighborhood a favorite stop for the kids, while parents love the walkability of the streets and friendliness of the homeowners.

Cinco Ranch

Nestled in the heart of Katy, Cinco Ranch is the ideal neighborhood for West Houston kids to trick or treat. The large community has made a name for itself when it comes to being safe, family-friendly, and festive, and kids and parents alike love how easy it is to navigate the streets while collecting candy. 

Briargrove

This north-central neighborhood is home to some beautiful houses and is walking distance from the Galleria, so there is lots to see and do nearby!

Braes Heights

Located close to the Medical Center, this neighborhood is known for top-notch candy collecting, walkable sidewalks, and lots of festive, decorated homes that are ready for Halloween fun.

Bellaire

Bellaire has long been a favorite for Houston residents when it comes to partaking in Halloween fun and safe trick or treating, and it continues to rank among the best places to trick or treat in Houston. Because of its widespread popularity, plan on arriving early and bringing an extra candy bucket so you can enjoy walking the streets with the kids without having to head back to the car early to make room for more treats.

Coles Crossing

In Northwest Houston, Coles Crossing is a sprawling neighborhood full of fun and festive Halloween decorations.

Best Trick-or-Treat Events in Houston

Halloween Trick-or-Treat at CityCentre

If you’re looking to get your candy collecting done early and break free from the traditional house to house trick or treating, head to CityCentre on Halloween instead. On Sunday, October 30 from 2pm to 5pm, kids are invited to come trick or treat the shops. BYOB (Bring Your Own Bucket/Bag) and expect a fun time collecting treats, rain or shine! Stores passing out treats are easily identifiable by their orange and black balloons. Plus, enjoy spooky tunes, a Halloween performance, and more festive activities. 

Spooktacular at The Woodlands Children’s Museum

Prefer to trick or treat during daylight? Head to The Woodlands Children’s Museum Spooktacular on Saturday, October 29th from 10am to 5pm, where kids can trick or treat safely and enjoy lots of Halloween festivities. This non-spooky Halloween event will be filled with child-friendly games and activities. Wear your costumes and enjoy live entertainment, art projects, science slime, and face painting too.

Halloween Monster Mayhem at the Children’s Museum of Houston

Trick or treat, dance to spooky good tunes, and have lots of silly Halloween fun during Monster Mayhem from October 11 – October 29 at the Children’s Museum of Houston. Trick or treat stations will be set up around the Museum daily during this time so kids can safely collect candy and enjoy Halloween fun. There will be chilling performances, mad science workshops, and more.

Monster Mash Trick-or-Treat Stop in The Woodlands

Residents of The Woodlands and nearby communities can head to Rob Fleming Park for a Monster Mash on Sunday, October 30 from 2pm-5pm. Enjoy trick or treating, inflatables, crafts, costume contests, games, and other family fun.

Kemah’s Boo on the Boardwalk

The Boardwalk is already known for being a hotspot of family fun, and Halloween is no different! Boo on the Boardwalk allows families to enjoy safe trick or treating near Houston, costume contests, live entertainment, and two different haunted houses: the kid-friendly Little Boo Haunted Fun House and the scarier Dungeon of Doom Haunted House. Visit every weekend in October for these and other special Halloween attractions on the boardwalk.

Halloween in the Hangar

Trick or treat amongst the planes at the Lone Star Flight Museum on Saturday, October 22! Kids 12 and under dressed in costume get free admission all day. Come from 10 am to 1pm for trick or treating, and stay afterwards to enjoy the museum exhibits.

ArBOOretum Fall Festival

The Arboretum’s annual ArBOOretum is a Houston Halloween staple. Bring the family for a fun celebration outdoors filled with fall activities for all ages at the Houston Arboretum. Houston’s only Trick-or-Treat Nature Trail will take you around the Arboretum to enjoy the foliage while taking part in pumpkin decorating, a Halloween market, petting zoo, train rides, and more. The fall festival takes place on Saturday October 15 from 10am to 4pm.

Trick-or-Treat Family Event at Old Town Spring

Old Town Spring is hosting their annual trick or treating event! Bring your kids to this family friendly FREE event where the shop owners will be passing out candy to all the little trick or treaters! Get dressed up and get some extra use out of that costume on Saturday, October 29 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Old Town Spring.
