Meow Wolf: Radio Tave opens today in Houston, becoming just the fifth permanent Meow Wolf installation nationwide. Having previously visited the Santa Fe and Las Vegas exhibits, we were thrilled when Houston was announced as the newest addition. Meow Wolf offers a one-of-a-kind experience, and its arrival in Houston is an exciting enhancement to the city’s art scene, offering something for all ages.
What is Meow Wolf? Think of it as an artistic Wonderland — each Meow Wolf installation transports you to an immersive, maximilist environment that you can explore. Meow Wolf: Radio Tave is an art experience created by over 50 Texas-based artists.
We had the privilege of previewing the new Houston location, and we’re excited to share a sneak peek with you. Read on to discover more about this incredible new attraction and explore other fun indoor spots on Indoor Fun Guide for Houston Kids!
What to expect at Meow Wolf Radio Tave
When you first step into Meow Wolf, you’re welcomed by a two-story grand entrance hall completely covered in art from floor to ceiling. After a brief orientation, you’re led through a short, winding sensory deprivation hallway that transports you to a new dimension: Radio Tave. The concept behind Radio Tave is simple yet captivating: a beloved community radio station is suddenly hijacked into a strange realm, and its broadcast team discovers an audience in a world more wondrous than they could have ever imagined.
From there, you’re free to explore the exhibit at your own pace. Radio Tave begins at the radio station itself, complete with a sound booth, lounge, breakroom, and bathrooms—or are they? An intriguing narrative unfolds as you explore, revealing a story about how venturing into the unknown opens up infinite possibilities.
The best part, especially for parents, is that Meow Wolf encourages play and interaction. Kids are free to touch everything! We found a room filled with instruments and had fun playing the piano and drums, experimenting with sound machines, and rummaging through drawers and cabinets. Doing so might lead you to uncover a hidden dimension—like we did when we passed through the break room’s refrigerator and found ourselves in an entirely new realm.
Kids can explore and touch all the art installations in Meow Wolf. This is where the magic truly begins. Over 50 Texas-based artists contributed to the creation of Radio Tave, resulting in an exhibition of interactive art unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. There are no maps—only hidden doors, winding pathways, and rooms overflowing with immersive art. You can dance, sing, and play, but most importantly, you explore. Every corner offers something unexpected, with art and wonder waiting to be discovered at every turn.
We spent nearly three hours exploring Meow Wolf, and even then, we’re not sure we saw everything!
