1. Canada is a country in the North American continent. It has ten provinces and three territories that extend from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and into the Arctic Ocean.
2. Canada has 2 official languages, French and English, but Mandarin, Cantonese, and Punjabi, among others, are widely spoken.
3. The name Canada comes from the Huron-Iroquois (North American indigenous people) word “kanata”, which means “village” of “settlement.”
4. With a total area of 3,855,100 square miles (9,984,670 square kilometers), Canada is the second largest country in the world.
5. It would take four and a half years to walk the length of Canada’s coastline.
6. The current population of Canada is 38,624,897, about 0.5% of the world’s total.

7. The maple leaf is a national identity symbol, even in the Canadian flag.
8. Quebec is the world leader in maple syrup production and is recognized around the world.
9. Montreal and Quebec City have a significant French influence. Before 1763, most of the province was part of New France and had many French immigrants; as a result, the common language was French.
10. Quebec’s old Town is the only walled city in North America whose walls still exist. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985.
11. Some famous Canadians are Justin Bieber, Keanu Reeves, Alanis Morissette, and Rachel Mcadams.
12. The town of Churchill, Manitoba, is often referred to as the “polar bear capital of the world.” More than 1,200 polar bears move through the area each year.
