- Picasso’s full name is Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno Maria de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santisima Trinidad Martyr Patricio Clito Ruiz y Picasso.
- Picasso’s first words were “piz piz,” short of lápiz the Spanish word of ‘pencil.’
- At the age of 8, Picasso completed his first painting titled “Le Picador.”
- Picasso managed to pass the entrance exam for the Royal Academy of San Fernando in Madrid at a young age. He was only 16 years old.
- Picasso’s father, José Ruiz Blasco, was also an artist and art professor who influenced Picasso’s work.
- When Pablo Picasso died in 1973, he was the richest artist in history, with a net worth estimated to be $50 million.
- He painted over 400 portraits of his muse and second wife, Jacqueline Roque.
- Picasso’s interactions with French artists, such as Georges Braque and Henri Matisse, were instrumental in shaping the Cubist movement.
- Picasso was detained as a suspect when the Mona Lisa was stolen from The Louvre in 1911, however, it was later discovered that it was a former Louvre employee who took it.
- Picasso has had more works of art stolen than any other artist: more than 1000 of his paintings have been stolen, according to the Art Loss Register.
